Rhythm - Room To Be Moved

Rhythm - Room To Be Moved

Small Group Guide

SUMMARY

This week's message challenged the idea that interruptions are obstacles to our plans, asking instead whether some interruptions are actually the assignment. Using the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the healing of Bartimaeus, the message showed that knowing the right thing to do isn't enough if our lives are built in a way that makes it hard to actually do it — real love requires capacity we didn't plan to spend. The challenge was to stop asking "who qualifies as my neighbor" and start asking "who am I becoming," making room in our schedules and hearts to be moved by the needs right in front of us.

Main Focus: The goal isn't an uninterrupted life — it's a life that's available to God and to the people he puts in front of us.

ICE-BREAKER

Kick It Off With Something Fun: Tell us about a time you were running late for something and someone or something interrupted you along the way. How did you handle it?

TAKE IT DEEPER

  1. The message said, "Interruptions are possible because I've already decided what was supposed to happen." Where in your life do you find yourself most annoyed by interruptions, and what does that reveal about what you've already decided your day or life is supposed to look like?
  2. In the Darley & Batson study, seminary students who were in a hurry were far less likely to stop and help — even when they had just been thinking about the Good Samaritan. Why do you think knowing the right thing to do so often isn't enough to actually do it when we're rushed?
  3. Read Luke 10:30-32. The priest and the Levite both saw the injured man and still passed by. Have you ever noticed someone's need and kept walking anyway? What made it easier to look away than to stop?
  4. "Most people don't announce their need, but they leave clues." Who in your life right now might be leaving clues you've been too busy or too hurried to notice?
  5. Read Luke 10:36-37. Jesus reframes the lawyer's question from "who qualifies as my neighbor" to "who became a neighbor." What's the difference between those two questions, and which one tends to shape how you actually live?
  6. Mark's account of Bartimaeus shows Jesus continually on the move, yet still willing to stop for the person in front of him. What would it look like for you to stay available to God's leading while still being present to the interruptions he brings your way?
  7. The message ended with the prayer, "God, I want all my potential available for what You want to do through me." What's one part of your schedule, resources, or attention you've been holding back that you sense God is asking you to make available this week?
